Can't look away.

So who gives their children (ages 12 & 14) each a cellphone loaded with internet capabilities, and unlimited texting and picture messaging? Who could they possibly talk to with their cell phones? Are we certainly to that point in the world where our children need internet on their phones? I mean I'm 20 and even I don't need internet on my phone. Actually I'd probably hate it because I'd be so busy facebooking every ten seconds I couldn't get anything done but maybe that's just my problem. Back to my rant! I didn't get my first cell phone until the month I turned 16. And even then I had to beg, borrow and steal for my parents to let me have unlimited texting. And by that I mean I ran their bill up so high they didn't really have a choice. But I offered to pay for the plan myself. These kids just had it handed to them on a silver platter. Oh man.

I guess that's it for tonight. And because everybody else is doing it:

  1. I didn't get my own cell phone until I was 15, I think... and even then it was a pay as you go cheapy that didn't have the fancy camera, texting, or internet.

I don't think children need cellphones, but I can see it as a necessity if families do not have a land line (like my family) anymore. Kids don't need the camera, texting, and what have you. I mean, that can lead to bad things like lengthening the phone bill or sexting.

I went on a field trip as a chaperon for my sister when she was in 6th grade and there were kids that had fancier phones than what I have (well mine isn't fancy, but it's not shit) taking videos of each other and junk. It made me quite angry because these kids don't deserve such a nice phone. They're not taking good care of them and chances are they use up their minutes & etc.

I don't think (some) parents make a good judgment when it comes to cell phones and kids.
